About this project

The Municipality of Thorne is seeking funding to pour cement and create a permanent outdoor rink facility. This will provide the community with a public location to join together and engage in physical activity. The goal and objective of this project is to encourage residents and weekend visitors to get outside and enjoy the small Township of Thorne. By cementing the outdoor rink surface area, we are creating a year round facility for residents to use. Youth and adolescents can use the surface for ball hockey and roller skating, while seniors can use it as a walking track. In the winter, small children can learn to skate, youth can have a game of pick-up hockey, families can enjoy a Sunday afternoon skate, and it provides seniors with enough exercise to keep them active. Thorne has a small population of approximately 450 residents, with the addition of weekend visitors this project aims to affect 600 people and would really be the boost the township needs.

Your vote is greatly appreciated.

2011-06-09 - The National Household Survey: A First!

The Census activities are well underway and a majority of citizens have already completed their form.

For the first time, in conjunction with the 2011 Census, Statistics Canada will undertake a major new survey. Indeed, one in three households will be invited to participate in the new National Household Survey (NHS).

For those who have not already answered online, the NHS questionnaires will be delivered in early June. The information collected in the NHS will provide data needed to plan and support family services, housing, roads and public transportation, and skills training for employment. They are important to provide a detailed and comprehensive picture of you community.

For information to be available for future planning and decision making, it is important that all residents who receive the NHS complete the questionnaire.

As for the Census, a series of recalls as well as door-to-door follow-ups will be conducted for households who won’t have completed their questionnaire.

Complete the NHS as of today!

For more information about the NHS, visit www.nhs.statcan.gc.ca or dial 1-877-308-2777

The Municipality of Thorne will be offering a free large “household” item drop-off to its ratepayers, on the Saturday, Sunday, Monday of the long weekend in May (May 21/22/23). This includes beds/mattresses/chairs/couches, but excludes construction and demolition debris. Fridges and freezers must be tagged that the Freon has been removed

High Speed Internet through Satellite for Thorne

The Municipality of Thorne is applying for a grant in order to provide the residents of Thorne with the option of having high speed internet using satellite. The process of obtaining the grant has proved to be a bumpy road, therefore, the Municipality is looking to provide the MRC with the number of ratepayers who are unable to obtain high speed internet using the current option of towers and consequently need an alternative form.

If you are interested in getting high speed internet through satellite, please sign your name to the petition. The more ratepayers we can show would benefit from using the satellites, the better our chances of obtaining the grant.

Statistics Canada: the 2011 Census

Canada’s next census will be held in May 2011.

Census information is important for all communities and is vital for planning services such as schools, daycare, police services and fire protection.

Count yourself!

Census questionnaires contain 10 short questions about basic demographics topics such as age, gender and mother tongue.

In early May, yellow census envelopes will be delivered to every dwelling in Canada, providing residents with the information they need to complete the census online or on paper.

Completed questionnaires will provide valuable information that will be used by all levels of government to make decisions about your neighbourhood and community.

Count yourself in and take part in the 2011 Census.

For more information about the 2011 Census, visit www.census2011.gc.ca.

For the first time: The National Household Survey

For the first time, one in three households will be asked to participate in the new, voluntary, National Household Survey (NHS). Information collected by the questionnaire will also support provincial/territorial and local government planning and program delivery. Furthermore, the information collected in the NHS will provide data to plan and support family services, housing, roads and public transportation, and skills training for employment.

When you receive the NHS, you can complete the survey online or on paper!

For more information about the NHS, visit www.nhs.statcan.gc.ca

Staff is required for a variety of supervisory and non-supervisory positions for the 2011 Census.

On February 15, 2011 The Municipality of Thorne received a letter regarding our request for support of our grant application for high speed internet satellites from the MRC Pontiac stating that:

“The MRC Pontiac is incapable of supporting your request at this time. Given that all 18 municipalities are owners in part of Réseau Picanoc.net, it goes against common sense to support your request. Considering as well that Réseau Picanoc has received financing from Industry Canada to add additional towers in your sector, and to improve existing towers in 2011, therefore you are advised that no decision will be made before the end of 2011 in order to measure the coverage after the installation of the new towers.”

The Municipality is currently taking names for people who are interested in having high speed internet by satellite at their residence. If you would like your name to be added to the list, please email administration@municipalite.thorne.qc.ca.

The MRC Pontiac has a program that gives a grant to low-income households for renovations. Should you like information on eligibility, please contact Elwood Francoeur at 819-648-5689 (227)

The Municipality has extended the date for the implementation of clear garbage bags to APRIL 1st. Until then black and green bags will be accepted.

After April 1st ratepayers are still able to put their “kitchen catchers” in the clear bags. Please contact the Municipality if you have any questions

There is wireless internet available through the Municipality, in the public library during office hours and 24/7 in the parking lot of the TCRA. To obtain the access code, please ask at the Municipal office
